Break a leg Charlie!

Another close link with the Entertainments National Service Association has recently come to light through our own Nigel Stannard, who leads our commercial and residential property services.

Nigel came across a poster (see photo) advertising his father’s theatrical antics and relationship with the ENSA during the Second World War.

It’s believed that as a tank instructor finishing off his conscription in the North-East Stannard Senior decided to put himself forward for a bit of stand up, leading with the tagline, “Tanks for the Memory” ! (Groan - Ed)

This entertainment association ran for seven years providing a comforting distraction for those men in desperate circumstances, but disbanding just one year after Charlie’s welcome to the stage in February 1946 -  although we’re fairly sure that had more to do with the end of the war than his attempts at amateur theatricals !!
