OFT alleges hotel price-fixing

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has issued a Statement of Objections which alleges that hotel booking websites Expedia and Booking.com entered into agreements with Intercontinental Hotels Group (owner of the Holiday Inn hotel brand) that restricted the websites' ability to offer discounted room-only accommodation rates.
The three organisations will have the opportunity to respond to the Statement of Objections before a decision is made as to whether competition law has been infringed.
It is thought that further investigations into online hotel bookings are likely to be undertaken.
