High street jobs purge starts

The expected purge of jobs in the High Street after the Christmas rush has begun with a bang.

Deloitte, the administrators of struggling shoe sellers Barratts, have announced more than 1,600 job losses at the retailer after failing to find a buyer for the business.
On the same day, administrators Zolfo Cooper have announced that more than 330 jobs are to go at Hawkins Bazaar, with 46 retail outlets to shut.
Recently the group owning former leading print franchises Prontaprint and Kall-Kwik appointed administrators. This followed the defection of several franchisees after prolonged legal wrangles.
