Eco Solutions - "World leader"

Posted: 24th October 2013

Ivor ChiversSomerset based Eco Solutions has firmly established that the highly innovative products it patented fifteen years ago are still properly described as ‘world-leading technology’.

The Winscombe Company which produces a range of water based paint strippers, coatings removers and similar products, fought off a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority (‘ASA’) that its marketing terminology was ‘misleading’.

In 1995, Eco Solutions collaborated with the Bristol University School of Chemistry to research and develop a new technology for paint strippers and coatings removers which comprised up to eighty percent water and contained no toxic material.

The revolutionary product was granted patents throughout Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa from 1998 and manufactured in other countries including Russia and China under the terms of technology transfer licence agreements.

In 1999, the products received Millennium Award from the United Kingdom Design Council.  British Telecom amongst others have used the products to remove old cables covered with lead based paint from their exchanges safely, without releasing hazardous particles into the environment.

Eco Solutions products are the only paint strippers and coatings removers that are pH neutral and solvent free.  They have gained CE certification under the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48 EC, meaning they are safe enough to be used by children under 14 and to be included in children’s paint sets.  In Canada, they have been awarded the Eco Logo as the only paint stripper free of toxic ingredients.

Managing Director Ivor Chivers explained that the ASA was bound to look into the complaint from a single source that his company could not justifiably claim to be ’world-leading technology and innovations-driven' but were soon satisfied that the claims always have been and remain entirely merited.

‘As a small family company, we continue to work closely with many other companies and organisations in the south west to make our innovative technology world-leading and source our needs, wherever possible, in this region’ he added.

Williamsons were pleased to be able to help Eco Solutions fend off this complaint.  Michael Williamson said, ‘Ivor is passionate about his business and its products and deservedly enjoys an international reputation for excellence.  We applaud the commitment to quality and we are privileged to be associated with Eco Solutions’.
