Tribunal awards increases
Posted: 23rd December 2011
The Government has published the annual inflation-linked changes to the compensation amounts that can be awarded by employment tribunals. These reflect the increase in the retail prices index of 5.6 per cent from September 2010 to September 2011. The revised amounts apply from 1 February 2012.
The main changes are:
- the maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal increases from £68,400 to £72,300; and
- the maximum amount of a week’s pay for the purpose of calculating a redundancy payment or for various awards including the basic or additional award of compensation for unfair dismissal increases from £400 to £430.
There is no statutory cap on the amount a tribunal can award in discrimination cases.
