Middle aged men with long service in senior management are often the most trusted employees in a business. It is no surprise, therefore, that accountants KPMG have recently identified the typical fraudster as a man aged between 36 and 55 who occupies a position of trust in the business. This profile accounts for more than three quarters of detected frauds.
More worryingly, the firm found that the need to make economies in the current difficult economic environment has led to a weakening of financial controls.
