Product placement is to be allowed on UK television from 28 February following the issue of rules to govern the practice by Ofcom.
There are limitations on the type of product that can be ‘placed’ into programmes. The prohibitions include products which are high in fat and sugar. The practice will be prohibited in current affairs, children’s and news programmes.
There will also be an on-screen indication that the programme contains ‘placed’ products.
For details of the new rules, see the Ofcom website.
