Swindling Accountant’s Assets Confiscated

Posted: 4th February 2011

An accountant who stole more than £1.3 million from her employers has been ordered to repay the entire value of her residual assets by a Teeside court. The accountant, who was jailed for four years in July, had paid her husband’s firm more than £1/2 million, and purchased a riding school with the stolen money.
Employee fraud is at record levels and vigilance is always good advice, especially where there are trusted employees with access to the firm’s assets.
If you suspect an employee of impropriety, take legal advice before you act: if such a situation is not handled correctly the consequence may be a considerable claim for damages.
